June is widely recognised as the month we celebrate and welcome the summer, but did you know June was also World Infertility Awareness Month – a month to raise awareness of infertility and to support to those of us impacted?
Whilst June may be coming to an end, the awareness of infertility should not, especially this year.
The impact of COVID-19 has been unique – and certainly unlike anything recent history has succumbed to. Not only has there been a widespread global business impact, leading to new ways of working and rapid adoption of new technology, it’s also brought about greater reflection on what really matters to us in the workplace.
There has been much debate on what employers should consider to best move forward, both in terms of their respective organisations but also the economy. It’s becoming clear the impact of what has happened will not be short-term and changes adopted by employers right now will not only be crucial to recovery but may become a mainstay of how they do business going forward.
With around 1 in 6 people struggling with infertility and up to 20% of any workforce impacted, the increase in waiting times and general inconvenience caused by COVID-19 within the healthcare system will have a greater impact in the workplace than many may think.
So, if there’s one key change to introduce in your employee benefits portfolio it should be fertility support.
