Dry January
Dry January is a public health campaign that encourages people to abstain from consuming alcohol for the entire month of January. It originated in the United Kingdom and has gained popularity in many countries around the world. The initiative is often promoted by organisations like Alcohol Change UK and aims to raise awareness about alcohol's effects on health, encourage mindful drinking, and promote better habits.
Veganuary
Veganuary is a global campaign that encourages people to try a vegan diet for the month of January. The initiative was started in 2014 by a UK-based nonprofit organisation also called Veganuary. It aims to promote veganism for its potential benefits to animals, the environment, and personal health.
World Introvert Day (2nd January)
World Introvert Day is celebrated annually on January 2nd to honour and raise awareness about introversion, a personality trait characterised by a preference for introspection, solitude, and quieter environments. The day provides an opportunity to acknowledge the strengths and contributions of introverts while addressing misconceptions about introversion.
World Braille Day (4th January)
World Braille Day 2025 will be observed on Saturday, January 4th. This annual event honors Louis Braille, the French educator who invented the Braille system, a tactile writing system used by people who are blind or visually impaired. The date marks his birthday, January 4, 1809.
Cervical Cancer Prevention Week (20th-26th January)
An annual campaign in the UK aimed at raising awareness about cervical cancer, its prevention, and the importance of regular cervical screenings (smear tests). It typically includes educational activities and initiatives to encourage early detection and improve understanding of the disease.
